I finished the Lacuna and immediately turned back to p. 1 to read it again. The lacuna imagery of lost passages/chapters, hidden caves, closed in rooms, safe home/harbor, wombs was beautiful. The howlers who open the story foreshadow the McCarthy rantings and the current set of howlers ( Limbaugh / Beck / et. al). A fatherless and pretty much motherless Shepherd is searching for home, a cove, a safe harbor. The love story in the Lacuna between Violet Brown and Shepherd is exquisite. The ending is a tragedy. . .no home in this country.
